What is Blunt-Tip Cannula (microcannula)?
Blunt-tip cannula is a small flexible needle like used to inject dermal fillers.   It is needle like without the sharp tip; therefore making it a blunt tip.

Why is Blunt-Tip cannula used instead of a needle to inject dermal fillers?
There are numerous benefits in using a blunt-tip microcannula.   Since the microcannulas are not sharp at the tip, it reduces the risk of puncturing a vein, artery or nerves during the procedure.    This reduces the risk of bruising, swelling and intravascular injection of dermal fillers.

Benefits of Microcannula Dermal Filler:  Is it Safer?
  • Reduced Bruising and Swelling
  • Reduced pain
  • Quick recovery
  • Reduced risk of tissue injury
  • Reduced risk of vein, artery or nervous system injuries
  • Reduced risk of skin necrosis
  • Reduced risk of intra-vascular dermal filler injection
  • Flexible tip
  • Even distribution of the dermal filler
  • Precise injection of the dermal filler
  • Safer to inject deeper areas of the face
  • Improved patient experience
  • Increased Safety profile
What are the steps in using a Blunt-tip microcannula?
Since the cannulas are longer and flexible, it makes the injection easier from a single entry point.

Step 1: A puncture of the skin is needed via a needle (included in the kit)
  • This is a single entry point to introduce the Blunt-tip cannula
  • The corresponding needle is used to puncture the skin (this is a superficial skin puncture)
Step 2: Insertion of the cannula through the puncture site
Step 3: Injection of the dermal filler through the microcannula
Caution: Do not use force to insert the cannula.

What size microcannula do I need to use for dermal fillers?
Depending on the dermal filler, different sizes are available to make the injection easy and less forceful.  This reduces the thumb soreness if the wrong size is used.

Recommended microcannula sizes to use during dermal filler procedure:
  • Most Juvederm and Restylane can use 27G or 25G.
  • Under eye injection - 27G38MM or 27G50MM
  • Cheek Augmentation - 25G50MM
  • Lip augmentation - 27G38MM
  • Jaw Line augmentation - 25G50MM
  • Radiesse filler - 25G50MM or 22G50MM
  • Sculptra - 25G50MM
